About Us
Greetings

This website belongs to Eric and Jeannine Lotos. When we set out to create this website for ourselves, we tried many names and references. Finally we came upon this one.

You might wonder what the doubtful guest refers to. We think it could be philosophical. Have you ever been to a party, gathering, or simply in the midst of humanity and feel alone? Feel isolated? Like a guest at a party where you don't know anyone except a friend who has disappeared?

Or conversely have you ever been with a group of friends and felt the presence of a loosely or unknown stranger in the group. Have they seemed to stick out or perhaps voice values that offend you? Have you questioned why they are a guest in your group?

The idea of the doubtful guest can both be excluded or exclusive, alone or burdened. We cannot speak for everyone, but we have had both feelings. Which way have you felt recently?

But thats not what this site is about. Its merely a nice name. The name "Doubtful Guest" is a book by an eccentric and unfortunately deceased genius. A mysterious man who loved the ballet, lived with numerous cats, and displayed a morbid yet captivating humor. This man was Edward Gorey. As collectors and enthusiasts of his work, we decided to found our website in his memory and honor.

But perhaps we are all doubtful guests at times in our own life or in other's lives. Where does an individual fit into society? The world, or even the universe? We think Edward Gorey understood this concept and embraced it.
