You step over to the closed door, open it and enter the library. As you enter you notice a woman in a red dress with her back to you, she appears to be studying the bookshelf. As you close the door she quickly turns around. You can see that it is Mrs. Mar, wife of Mr. Mar.
"You must be Mr. Smuck, John's detective friend. I can't tell you how much it means to John and I that you are helping us." Mrs. Mar graciously smiles at you.
"Yes, it is my pleasure to help a friend out" you say, trying to think of how to phrase your questions.
"John, only gave me a brief account on my way over here. Would you tell me what happened this evening?"
Mrs. Mar is silent as she looks into her hands and gathers her thoughts. With a deep breath she begins to talk.
"John had recently purchased this house and tonight was our celebratory party. We had invited several of our friends. Mrs. Finch, my husbands widowed aunt, came down with my uncle, Major Chutney, and his wife. Our friends Mr and Mrs Smith brought my cousin Jessica Redly."
Mrs. Mar is silent as she struggles with her tears.
"After a pleasant afternoon together we had retired to the house, waiting for dinner. When the dinner bell had not rung for some time, I went to the kitchen to check on the progress of the food."
Tears begin flowing down Mrs. Mars face as she speaks.
"When I came to the kitchen I found the cook ... she was laying on the floor, the blood was everywhere ... She was so young, she had just started working for us."
As Mrs Mar looses control you feel you should give her privacy and step back into the hall.
